With content universally accepted as being the most important differentiator for an IPTV service, understanding the licensing and copyright environment is paramount for telecommunication operators' success. This not only includes developing the right content strategy, but also knowing the terminology and legal implications of operating in the content space. What are the various rights in the content space? What is the importance of release windows? What are the key licensing terms? What type of content formats are most commonly dealt with? This workshop brings together a line up of industry specialists to give telco IPTV operators a fundamental understanding of the basic components of content licensing, negotiating and managing copyrights.
Speakers include:
Lindsay Servian, Executive Vice President, Business Development, Now Broadband TV Michael Fagan, Deputy General Counsel, PCCW Group John McLellan, Partner, Haldanes Ringo Chan, Vice President, Greater China, Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific, Inc.

While IPTV as a pay TV platform is rapidly catching on, it is the content side that seems to cause the most headaches for operators who are new to the game. While content owners have been dealing with cable and satellite operators for years, dealing with telco IPTV operators means not only dealing with a new delivery platform, but also with a very different business environment. There are many misconceptions regarding the content business from an operator's perspective which need to be addressed and clarified for both sides to work together successfully. What is content owners' view on the IPTV platform? What is their view on licensing to IPTV telco operators? How should an IPTV service market itself to be attractive for content owners? What is their view on content security for IPTV? What is their view on what specific content works in Asia? This panel brings together senior content executives to provide a view 'from the other side' for telco IPTV operators that will help with bringing the two sides closer together and understanding each others' interests and issues better.
