Taipei TV Festival 2007

23 - 24 November 2007

In its third year now and hosted by the Taiwan Government, the Festival has grown into one of the biggest TV & Film events in Asia, comprising not only a content market place and conference, but also several film festivals which will culminate in the prestigious Golden Horse and Golden Bell Awards ceremonies.

The Festival will kick off with a two-day conference on Friday 23 November with a dedicated IPTV Track in the afternoon on that day. Following is an overview of the two IPTV sessions:

13.45 - 15.15: PANEL 1: An overview of IPTV in Asia
With its vast population and rapid economic growth, coupled with people’s voracious appetite for content and readiness to pay for it, IPTV is blossoming in Asia and even has the potential to shape IPTV’s further evolution on a global scale. Aside from pioneers PCCW in Hong Kong, IPTV has been launched or is trialing in most Asian economies. However, these services vary quite considerably from country to country in terms of the business model chosen, to the technology employed and the content lined up. This diversity reflects the fact that every market is different and what works in one country may not necessarily work in another. This panel brings together key Asian operators who have launched IPTV services to talk about their service models and share lessons learned in their respective markets.

Moderated by Ross O’Brien, Director, HK Corporate Network, The Economist Intelligence Unit
Speakers:

  • Eric Kim, General Manager, Content Planning Team, HanaTV

  • Kahoe Low, Director, IPTV & Content, SingTel

PANEL 2: Digital content for IPTV and other new platforms
The much anticipated content anywhere, anytime and on any device seems to have crept upon us with the rather unsystematic emergence of platforms and applications such as IPTV, mobile TV and Internet TV. While the profligation of platforms has resulted in content becoming increasingly global, it is also increasingly focusing on niche-markets, resulting in the gradual demise of the age old concept of mass audiences. How do content owners approach the multi-platform paradigm? What is the best way for content owners to get the maximum revenue out of their content in this type of environment? This panel brings together key content owners in Asia to discuss strategies and innovations in the content space, specifically in Asia.

Moderated by Jeffrey Soong, CEO of BNS Ltd
Speakers:

  • Robert Kim, Senior Director, Digital Media, Viacom Brand Solutions Asia Pacific, MTV Asia LDC

  • Ross Pollack, Senior VP, Distribution, Asia, Sony Picture International

  • Ringo Chan, VP Wireless Development, Asia Pacific, Turner International Asia Pacific Ltd
